Foam is the best material to for someone to begin with on the mill. It is relativly soft and if a mistake is made then the machine will not be damged.

Baisc Design for Beginners

  • Beginners can start on a simple desgin that I have worked on myself and is relativly easy and that is a simple smily face

  • To start the process of making your very own smily face you must first open up Google Sketch Up and design a small 1",1" square
  • You do this by using the square drawing tool at the top of the page you then must draw the square on the x-axis which is the green line this makes your square flat just like the foam will be. To make the square to the right size when you have the tool selected draw a square on the x-axis but do not let go of it with the mouse. With the mouse still clicked down enter 1",1" on the keyboard exactly how it is written there you will see the numbers come up at the bottom right of the screen hit enter and your square will be the exact size you need
  • Your Square is now very small so you must zoom in on it using the scroll whell on your mouse. Once the square is close up double check the size of the square with the tap measure tool at the top of the page if the sides are 1" each then your all set if they off even by a little but then you must start over
  • Next you must select the riser tool at the top of the page it is the symbol with the small square with an up arrow on top of it. Now with tool selected move over to the top of your square you will notice the surface becomes highlighted when you move the cursor over it this indicates what will be risen. Now click on the square with the tool now all you need to do is move the mouse upwards with the surface selected and it will rise and you will notice in the bottom right corner that the number begins to change. Just like before this number indicates your height you can skip the trick that was taught before and just manually rise the square up to 1"
  • Now you have your very own 3D square and this will be the basic building block of most of your early designs and this will allow you to become familiar with the mill
  • The next  step is to draw the circle on top of the block to do this so the circle is centered on top of the block you must draw and X on the surface so you can center the circle tool and draw your ciclre correctly. You go about this by selecting the line tool which is the pencil icon at the top left of the page, with this selected draw a line  diagnoaly from one corner of the surface across the top of the box to the other corner repeat the same process for the other corner. Now with your X marked at the top of tha box you can draw the first circle, start by selecting the circle tool at the top at the page this tool resembles a circle as you would imagine. Now move the tool over the center of the X where the two lines intersect click there and make the circle a radius of 1/2" you will see this number in the bottom right corner like before. When you are finished your square should look like the image below.
